Best 9 of 2018 from left to right:
Me and husband out for our 7th wedding anniversary; me and husband on our way to Ireland; me eating a bread bowl full of gnocchi and cheese; me and husband going to my cousin’s wedding; me at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland; me crushing it as the gym; high school friends reunion in North Carolina; office nook I built (this was a series of photos); head shots I resurrected from my ballerina days (circa 2004).
Definition of fortitude : strength of mind that enables a person to encounter danger or bear pain or adversity with courage.
I love the newness of a new year. I like having a fresh start and an opportunity to set resolutions, intentions, and goals for a brand new year. I like challenging myself to have the fortitude to conquer my goals and the strength of mind to be gentle with myself if I’m falling short.
Here is my report card from 2018:
Develop and stick to an evening skin care regime: B+
Sometimes I’m tired and lazy
Exercise more and tone my muscles: A+
I have visible arm muscles now and for a fleeting moment in the mornings, I have ab definition
Read more books: C+
I went through a strong phase with this goal over the summer but that’s about it
Spend less money: D
I had a hard time remembering this goal and bought new jeans and lipstick anyway. More than once. Oops.
Bulk up my savings accounts: see above
I put money into my savings accounts every paycheck and treat it like I’m paying a bill, but my goal was to increase what I put in. Sometimes I did, and sometimes I was all #treatyoself.
Clean eating: A-
Ever since I did the Whole30 in August 2017, I’ve been so much more mindful of the foods I choose to eat. I wasn’t aiming for clean eating perfection, but more of the 80/20 rule. I’m giving myself an A- rather than an A+ because I drank more than necessary (but in this political climate, who can blame me).
Goals/Resolutions/Intentions for 2019
Read more books. I’d like to try to read 1 book per month and I had fun planning for this goal by creating a list on goodreads.com.
Continue with current fitness regimen - I’ve created good exercise habits and I should keep it up! This means getting my ass to the gym or yoga 4-5 times per week.
Spend more time with my tribe of lady friends. Sometimes I get shy and worry I’m bothering people and then I don’t reach out to my friends when I should.
Reign in frivolous spending and save more money. I’m putting myself on a spending freeze for Q1. This means only buying things I actually need. I do not need more clothes (unfortunately).
Practice the ukulele more often. My dad got me a ukulele for Christmas 2 years ago and I can play 3 songs pretty poorly. I’d like to be able to play at least 1 song well. Look out, YouTube!
Improve my weekday meal routine. As I’ve mentioned in my facts page, I like cooking experiments but not the weekly grind. I want to make a list of weeknight go-tos that will make cooking during the work week more bearable. I will share what I come up with.
Cheers to the new year, friends!
